A complete product development programme to create a raw data wearable for health research. The concept for the core electronics was based on work by Unilever and known as GENEA (Gravitational/General Estimator of Normal Everyday Activity). As a device that is worn but not chosen by subjects the concept design concentrated on acceptability over desirability. It needed to be waterproof and to have outstanding ergonomic design to ensure continuous wear. The resulting product was launched in 2011 and has grown to be a gold standard product for the sector with many peer-reviewed papers supporting its use.
